Ardent Health Services, a Nashville, Tenn.-based health system, has selected Brad Hoyt, MD, as its next chief medical information officer.

Dr. Mouaz Al-Mallah has been installed as president of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology for the 2023 term. 

Susan Smyth, MD, cardiologist and dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, died of cancer on Dec. 31 at age 57, according to a Jan. 2 report from the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. 

Shelly Holmström, MD, will join Florida-based INVO Bioscience as the physician operator at its INVO center in Tampa, which is set to open in the first half of 2023.

Gladys Ayala, MD, has been selected as the next dean and chief academic officer of NYU Long Island School of Medicine in Mineola, N.Y. Dr. Ayala assumes the role with more than 25 years of experience in medical education, according to a Jan. 3 release from the school.

Rejuvenate Bio has appointed Deborah Ascheim, MD, as the company's first chief medical officer.

James Callaghan, MD, has been promoted to senior vice president and chief operating officer of Mishawaka, Ind.--based Franciscan Alliance, which oversees 12 hospitals across Illinois and Indiana. Dr. Callaghan will assume the role Jan. 1.

Alexandra Clark, MD, has been named chief medical officer of Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, Cal., Riverside University Health System announced in a release Dec. 29.

Kenneth Frisof, MD, a retired family medicine physician from Cleveland-based MetroHealth System, is calling for a CEO pay cap after the health system's CEO allegedly gave himself and others more than $2.2 million in unauthorized bonuses, Dr. Frisof wrote in a letter published Dec. 24 on cleveland.com. 

Dean Burke, MD, has resigned from his position as a Georgia state senator to step in as the chief medical officer for the state's department of community health, the agency announced Dec. 22. Dr. Burke represented the state's 11th district.

Elizabeth, W. Va.-based Coplin Health Systems has selected Darrin Nichols, MD, as its next chief medical officer. Dr. Nichols is a family physician who will continue to care for patients at Wirt County Family Care while leading Coplin Health, according to a release from the health system.

The Texas Department of State Health Services selected Jennifer Shuford, MD, as its next commissioner Dec. 27. Dr. Shuford has worked with the department since 2017 and has served as interim commissioner since September, according to a report from the Texas Tribune.

Peoria, Ill.-based OSF Healthcare has appointed Glenn Milos, MD, as the new vice president and chief medical officer at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill., and OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Ill., according to a Dec. 28 report from WGIL. 

Chris DeRienzo, MD, was named senior vice president and chief physician executive of the American Hospital Association. 

Prithipal Sethi, MD, has been named chief medical officer of urology for Promaxo, a medical imaging, robotics and AI technology company.

Shaheed Koury, MD, has been selected as chief clinical officer for Chillicothe, Ohio-based Adena Health System, according to a Dec. 20 release. Adena Health serves patients throughout South Central and Southern Ohio.

Danielle Mahaffey, MD, has been named chief medical officer of Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, N.C. Alamance Regional is a member of Cone Health, which serves patients throughout the Greensboro, N.C., area.

Bernard King Jr., MD, has been awarded the 2023 gold medal from the American Roentgen Ray Society. Dr. King was the 117th president of the ARRS from 2017 to 2018.

Robin Zon, MD, has been named the next president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Zon will take over as president-elect following the ASCO Annual Business Meeting on June 5, 2023, and will serve as president during the 2024-2025 term, according to a Dec. 19 report from the ASCO Post.
