Elizabeth, W. Va.-based Coplin Health Systems has selected Darrin Nichols, MD, as its next chief medical officer. Dr. Nichols is a family physician who will continue to care for patients at Wirt County Family Care while leading Coplin Health, according to a release from the health system.
Dr. Nichols currently sits on the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission's Health Science Advisory Committee, providing recommendations focusing on rural healthcare initiatives, rural medical education and rural practice retention.
He is also a clinical assistant professor in the department of family medicine at the West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown and serves as secretary for the West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Nichols completed his family medicine residency training in 2020 at Charleston Area Medical Center, where he served as the chief resident for the Department of Family Medicine.
