Physician practices are struggling for survival amid inflation, healthcare consolidation and other market pressures.
Here are three physician practices that closed this year after at least 30 years of operation:
1. Saginaw Township, Mich.-based Women's OB-GYN permanently closed after 74 years, according to a letter posted on the practice's website. The letter did not provide a reason for the closure, and stopped seeing postpartum and postsurgical emergency calls on Oct. 27.
2. Auburn (N.Y.) Cardiology Associates closed Sept. 30 after nearly four decades, following the retirement of owner and head physician Rama Godishala, MD. The closure reduced cardiac care options in Auburn, requiring patients to travel to Geneva, Ithaca, or Syracuse, N.Y., for nearby cardiology services.
3. Pueblo, Colo.-based Rocky Mountain Eye Center closed all of its clinics July 31 after 32 years of operation due to financial strain after COVID-19. The closure affects six facilities and 77 employees.
