The state of nursing: 5 things to know

Here is a snapshot of the nursing industry in five notes: 

1. The number of nurse practitioners is expected to increase 44.5 percent by 2032, according to the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational employment statistics survey.

2. Nurse practitioners with doctorates have increasingly been pushing back on states' moves to address whether nonphysicians can be called doctors.

3. Washington is the best state for nurses, while Hawaii is the worst, according to personal finance site WalletHub.

4. New Hampshire has the most nursing job openings per capita, while Utah has the fewest, according to WalletHub. 

5. Chief nurse anesthetist is the best-paying nurse job, with an average annual salary of $211,500, according to a report on Nursing Process.
