10 worst states for physicians vs. nurses

Hawaii is the worst state for physicians and nurses, according to personal finance site WalletHub. 

A WalletHub report released March 20 ranked the best and worst states for physicians. The website compared the states and Washington, D.C., across two dimensions: opportunity and competition, and medical environment. WalletHub evaluated those dimensions using 19 metrics, including the insured population rate, projected competition and hospitals per capita. 

In a report released May 2, WalletHub determined the best and worst states for nurses. The site compared the states across two dimensions: opportunity and competition, and work environment. Those dimensions were then evaluated using 20 metrics, including average annual salary for nurses, nurses per 1,000 residents and nurse job growth. 

Here are the 10 worst states for physicians:

3. Alaska

4. New Jersey

5. District of Columbia

6. New Mexico

7. Massachusetts

8. New York

9. Pennsylvania

10. Oregon

Here are the 10 worst states for nurses:

1. Hawaii

2. Oklahoma

3. Arkansas

4. Alabama

5. Mississippi

6. Louisiana

7. Nebraska

8. Tennessee

10. Delaware
