A quarter of Massachusetts physicians are planning to leave medicine in coming years, according to the Massachusetts Medical Society's "Supporting MMS Physicians' Well-Being Report."
The organization surveyed over 500 members and found that 14.2 percent said they "definitely" will leave the field in the next two years, and 12.8 percent said their forthcoming departure is "likely."
MMS also found that half of the state's physicians have already or intend to cut back on their clinical hours. Twenty-seven percent of respondents said they have already reduced their clinical work, and another 24 percent said they are "definitely" or "likely" to do so by June 2023.
