Pennsylvania physician retires after 40 years

Alexander Nesbitt, MD, a physician in Williamsport, Pa., is retiring after 40 years of practice, the Williamsport Sun-Gazette reported Nov. 13.

Dr. Nesbitt worked as a family medicine physician for 20 years. He would meet regularly with hospice teams during his time as a family medicine physician, which piqued his interest in palliative care, according to the report.

He eventually made the full switch to hospice medicine, and was heavily involved in the establishment of The Gatehouse at UPMC's Williamsport Divine Providence Campus, an in-hospital, "family-friendly" setting for hospice care.

Dr. Nesbitt retires as the medical director of Susquehanna Hospice and Susquehanna Palliative Care, both in Williamsport.
