Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, MD, has announced $30 million in loan repayment for healthcare workers.
The Healthcare Education Loan Repayment Program will offer loan repayment for health professionals licensed or otherwise certified to practice in and treat patients in Hawaii, according to a Sept. 9 news release. Professionals must work full time or part time in Hawaii for two years to be eligible for the repayments, which will range from $12,500 to $50,000.
The program aims to address the growing shortage of physicians and other providers across the islands and will prioritize health professionals in rural areas and those specializing in primary care and behavioral health.
HELP is funded by the Hawai'i State Legislature and was developed by the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu, the Healthcare Association of Hawai'i and the State Department of Health.
