Nearly half of physicians said increasing compensation was the No. 1 solution that could address burnout in the healthcare space, according to Medscape's "Physician Burnout & Depression Report 2024" released Jan. 26.
The report included 9,226 respondents across more than 29 specialties.
Here are the solutions physicians said could be used to address burnout:
- Increase compensation: 48%
- Add support staff: 47%
- Make work schedules more flexible: 46%
- Increase physician control and autonomy: 41%
- More respect from administrators, employers, colleagues and staff: 35%
- Lighten patient loads: 33%
- Make counseling and check-ins available: 9%
- Offer different jobs: 4%
- Other: 9%
