Only 16 states have more primary care physicians than specialist physicians, according to recent data from KFF.

Here are the 16 states with more primary care physicians:

Illinois: 24,131 primary care physicians vs. 23,701 specialists

Colorado: 7,560 vs. 7,551

Oklahoma: 5,432 vs. 5,181

Iowa: 5,005 vs. 4,590

Kansas: 4,185 vs. 4,046

New Mexico: 3,138 vs. 3,130

West Virginia: 3,121 vs. 2,761

Nebraska: 3,072 vs. 2,955

Maine: 2,625 vs. 2,401

Hawaii: 2,342 vs. 2,215

Idaho: 1,893 vs. 1,445

North Dakota: 1,286 vs. 985

Montana: 1,249 vs. 1,147

South Dakota: 1,211 vs. 1,043
