6 physician workforce updates from February

Here are six workforce updates that Becker's reported on in February:

  1. The average age of all practicing physicians in the U.S. is 53.9 — more than 10 years older than the U.S. labor force median age of 41.8.
  2. Urology is the most depressed physician specialty.
  3. Fifty-four percent of physicians said they would take a pay cut for better work-life balance.
  4. Marriage satisfaction rates are highest among pulmonary medicine physicians.
  5. Half of female physicians said they feel "very conflicted" or "conflicted" as parents due to work demands, while 32% of male physicians reported the same.
  6. Ninety percent of physicians said they have experienced either clinical or colloquial depression.
