The University of Texas at Tyler appointed Julie Philley, MD, as its president.
Dr. Philley, a pulmonary and critical care specialist, has served as the university's executive vice president for health affairs since 2021 and its vice provost since 2022, according to a May 9 UT news release. She previously served as the chair of the department of medicine at UT Health Science Center at Tyler.
"Dr. Philley is a highly respected health, academic, and community leader in Tyler. She is an East Texas native with a deep understanding of our region and its needs, and she played a front-line role in helping build UT Tyler's health enterprise to what it is today," UT Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife, said. "I've witnessed her impact over the past 12 years and we are confident she is ready to grow UT Tyler as a premier academic and health institution."
Dr. Philley will step into her role June 1, after the May 31 retirement of current president Kirk Calhoun, MD, the release said.
