The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (Philadelphia) and Pennsylvania-based WellSpan Health have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a regional campus in York County, according to a release by the affiliation.
The proposed development, WellSpan York Hospital, will add a second regional campus to Temple's existing medical school. Temple currently enrolls 880 medical students between two campuses, the Katz school in Philadelphia and the other at St. Luke's University Health Network in Bethlehem, Pa.
WellSpan York Hospital will be housed in what is currently a WellSpan administrative building and will be the initial clinical site for the school. Students will be able access all WellSpan Health hospitals and ambulatory sites through the partnership.
The planned facility will employ more than 100 university faculty and have a staff of 30.
"This collaboration will provide our medical students with unparalleled opportunities to learn and grow. Together, we will advance medical education and improve health outcomes for communities across the region. We look forward to an incredible collaboration that will not only benefit our institutions, students, faculty and staff, but also the patients and communities we serve,” said Amy J. Goldberg, MD, FACS, the Marjorie Joy Katz dean, Lewis Katz School of Medicine.
