Physician charged for Medicaid fraud

A Springdale, Ark.-based psychiatrist and former head of Arkansas' state medical board has been formally charged with two counts of Medicaid fraud.

From Jan. 1, 2022, to April 29, 2022, Brian Hyatt, MD, made more than $300,000 in false Medicaid claims while working as medical director of the behavioral health unit of Northwest Medical Center-Springdale, the state's attorney general said in a Nov. 29 news release.

Dr. Hyatt, who pleaded not guilty Oct. 19 in response to an arrest warrant and affidavit, allegedly billed Medicaid for the most expensive billing codes despite rarely being onsite.

The hospital terminated Dr. Hyatt's contract in May 2022.
