Nearly half of pediatricians (49%) have seen increased paperwork volume in the last year, according to Medscape's 2024 "Pediatrics Practice Issues Report," published Aug. 14.
Here are eight additional things to know about pediatricians in practice in 2024:
1. The majority of pediatricians (68%) do not have a daily patient quota.
2. The majority of pediatricians believe that having administrative rules in the workplace makes sense for the business (62%), for physicians (50%) and for patients (64%).
3. The largest thing leading to pediatrician burnout is having too many bureaucratic tasks, with 65% of respondents identifying it as a culprit.
4. About 45% of pediatricians believe that employers do not recognize burnout problems.
5. The majority of pediatricians (56%) are either very or somewhat concerned that EHRs could potentially cause patients harm by way of incorrect or misdirected information being entered in their records.
6. The majority of pediatricians (75%) feel that EHRs are getting easier to use.
7. Forty percent of pediatricians feel enthusiastic about the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace, while an additional 40% feel apprehensive.
8. Fourteen percent of pediatricians are already using AI for EHRs.
