NIMH director to step down

Joshua Gordon, MD, PhD, will step down from his role as director of the National Institute of Mental Health on June 14.

Dr. Gordon has served as director of NIMH for eight years, according to a Feb. 29 news release from the organization. He will be taking on the roles of chair of the psychiatry department at Columbia University, psychiatrist-in-chief at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital campus at the university's Irving Medical Center and director of the New York State Psychiatric Institute, all in New York City. 

Shelli Avenevoli, PhD, who currently serves as NIMH deputy director, will serve as the organization's acting director, according to the release.
