Metairie, La.-based physician Alex Glotser, MD, has pleaded guilty to submitting $5.6 million of fraudulent claims to Medicare for medically unnecessary equipment and genetic testing.
Dr. Glotser signed thousands of physicians' orders for durable medical equipment and cancer genetic testing for Medicare beneficiaries he neither met nor treated while working as an independent contractor for telemedicine companies between 2017 and 2019, according to an Oct. 24 news release from the Justice Department.
Dr. Glotser also made false statements in support of the orders, including false certification and requisition forms and must pay more than $2.4 million in restitution to Medicare. He faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
