Joseph Kanter, MD, has resigned from his role as chief medical officer of the Louisiana Department of Health, the Louisiana Illuminator reported Feb. 26.
Dr. Kanter has served as state health officer since January 2021, according to the publication.
"It has been an incredible honor and privilege to serve the people of Louisiana," Mr. Kanter told the Illuminator. He declined to comment on the reasons for his departure and did not reveal his next professional venture.
Pete Croughan, MD, current deputy secretary of the health department, has been named interim state health officer, according to the newspaper.
