A plurality of hospitalists (28%) have a net worth of less than $500,000, according to Medscape's "Hospitalist Wealth & Debt Report," published Sept. 6.
Here are seven additional takeaways about hospitalist wealth and debt in 2024:
1. About 30% of hospitalists have a net worth of over $2 million.
2. About 37% of male hospitalists have a net worth of over $2 million, compared to just 24% of female hospitalists.
3. The largest debt held by hospitalists is a mortgage on a primary residence (63%).
4. Hospitalists suffered the largest amount of losses through bad investments in the stock market (20%).
5. About 26% of hospitalists believe their financial portfolio will decline in the next year, while 28% believe it will grow.
6. The large majority of hospitalists report living either within or below their means.
7. A plurality of hospitalists (26%) either have no mortgage or a mortgage that is paid off already.
