Terry Gilliland, MD, has been appointed president of Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health and selected as the health system's next CEO.
"Leading an organization with this type of history, mission and reputation is the opportunity of a lifetime," Dr. Gilliland said in a March 4 news release from the health system. "I became a surgeon to improve the lives of my patients. Leading the 25,000 dedicated professionals at Geisinger gives me the opportunity to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in communities throughout Pennsylvania."
Before joining Geisinger, Dr. Gilliland served as chief medical officer and chief science officer at Cogitativo, a healthcare-focused artificial intelligence company. Prior to that, he served as executive vice president of healthcare quality and affordability at Blue Shield of California.
Dr. Gilliland will take over as CEO once Jaewon Ryu, MD, transitions to his next role as CEO of Risant Health, the release said.
