Mohamed Eltemamy, MD, a urologist at Cleveland Clinic, performed the first dual kidney transplant in the U.S. using a minimally invasive robotic surgery system.
The surgery was conducted in March using a robotic system with magnified 3DHD vision, allowing Dr. Eltemamy to place both kidneys through one small incision, according to a July 17 release from Cleveland Clinic.
The 70-year-old patient went home in three days with minimal pain, the release said.
