Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed a bill prohibiting two state agencies from taking action against physicians who prescribed off-label medical treatments, the Alabama Reflector reported May 20.
The bill, which prohibits the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and the Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama from taking action, passed unanimously in the state House and Legislature.
Off-label use refers to prescribing an approved drug for an unapproved disease or condition, administering it in a different form or giving it in a different dose.
