University of Kentucky receives $1.6M gift to establish gynecologic oncology chair

The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center in Lexington has received a $1.6 million gift from the Telford Foundation to establish a chair in gynecologic oncology.

The donation will be used to develop an endowed chair honoring John van Nagell Jr., MD, according to a Feb. 6 release from the university. Dr. van Nagell is the medical director of the cancer center's ovarian cancer screening program, which he started in 1987.

The donation from the Telford Foundation was matched with a $800,000 donation from UK's Research Challenge Trust Fund, bringing the total gift to $2.4 million. The John van Nagell, Jr. chair will continue to support the goals and objectives of the cancer center, the release said.
