Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City has appointed two associate surgeons-in-chief, effective Sept. 5.
Answorth Allen, MD, currently serves as the medical director for HSS West Side, according to an Aug. 7 news release. He is also the team orthopedist for the NBA's New York Knicks and a professor of clinical orthopedic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Mathias Bostrom, MD, has served as chief of adult reconstruction and joint replacement at HSS since 2019 and as director of HSS education and academic affairs since 2003. He previously served as chief of the HSS hip service from 2014 to 2019.
In addition to their roles as associate surgeons-in-chief, Dr. Allen will succeed Douglas Padgett, MD, as deputy medical director when Dr. Padgett takes the role of surgeon-in-chief, while Dr. Bostrom will serve as director of quality and safety.
