Parham Jaberi, MD, has been selected as the state of Virginia's interim health commissioner, The Washington Post reported April 4.
Dr. Jaberi currently serves as the deputy director for medical services at Fairfax (Va.) County Health Department and previously served as deputy commissioner at the Virginia Department of Health. He will work between the Fairfax County Health Department and the state department for the next month, according to the publication.
The state health department's COO, Christopher Lindsay, has been handling the role, though he is not a physician — a state code requirement.
Selection of a permanent candidate for the role has been delayed following lawmakers rejecting Gov. Glenn Youngkin's selection of Colin Greene, MD, for concerns of staff treatment and views on structural racism.
