The National Institutes of Health named Jeanne Marrazzo, MD, as director of its National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Marrazzo, an infectious disease specialist, currently serves as director of the division of infectious diseases at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She will succeed Hugh Auchincloss Jr., MD, who has served as acting director since Anthony Fauci, MD, stepped down in December, according to an Aug. 2 news release from the NIH.
As director, Dr. Marrazzo will manage the institute's $6.3 billion budget dedicated to researching and advancing the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of infectious, immunologic and allergic diseases. She is expected to step into the role this fall.
