Student loan payments officially resumed Oct. 1.
Here are four tips and things to know as payments resume, according to an Oct. 12 article from the American Medical Association:
- Although payments began Oct. 1, outstanding student loans started accruing interest again Sept. 1.
- Physicians may be eligible for the Saving on a Valuable Education Plan, which determines your monthly payment based on your current earnings and could take into account whether an individual is a resident or a fellow.
- Physicians should include their student loans into necessities in their budget, along with other monthly expenses like rent, car payments, utilities and groceries.
- Physicians should continue to keep an eye out for other opportunities for loan relief, such as a public service loan forgiveness plan.
