Indiana lawmakers weigh noncompete ban for physicians

Indiana lawmakers are seeking to address the physician shortage in the state by adjusting bans on noncompete agreements, radio station WBOI reported April 11.

Senate Bill 7 originally aimed to prohibit employers from placing employees under noncompete agreements after July 2023 but was weakened by the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee on April 11.

The committee adjusted the bill, making it a list of restrictions that would nullify noncompete agreements only in certain circumstances. The move follows the committee shutting down a version of the bill that would ban noncompete agreements only on primary care physicians.
