West Virginia University Medicine’s Thomas Hospital (South Charleston) has appointed Michael Sitler, MD, as their vice president and chief medical officer, effective July 15.
Dr. Sitler previously served as the associate medical director for southern operations at WVU Medicine and oversaw emergency medicine at affiliated hospitals throughout the region, according to a July 18 news release. He was also the regional medical director for emergency medicine at TeamHealth LifePoint Group, where he directed emergency medicine, hospital medicine, ICU, pediatrics and urgent care operations across multiple states.
He replaces Matthew Upton, MD, who is retiring after 29 years at Thomas Hospitals. Dr. Upton will assist in the transition until Aug. 30.
