Physicians at Allina Health's Mercy Hospital campuses in Fridley and Coon Rapids, Minn., filed a petition Feb. 14 for a union representation election with the National Labor Relations Board.
Through the petition, the physicians at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospital-Unity seek to increase physician input and a focus on patient-centered care by organizing with Doctors Council SIEU.
An election will be conducted by the NLRB if a minimum of 30 percent of workers sign a petition or cards in favor of forming a union. Roughly 150 physicians would be represented by the union if a vote to unionize passes.
