Does physician pay affect burnout?

Emergency medicine has the most burnt-out providers, according to a survey conducted by the American Medical Association.

The "Organizational Biopsy" assessment asked 13,000 physicians and nonphysician providers across 30 states about their job satisfaction, job stress, burnout, intent to leave an organization, feeling valued by an organization and total hours spent per week on work-related activities in 2022.

Below are the six specialties reporting the highest levels of burnout, along with the average annual salary of physicians in each specialty. Notably, the six most burnt-out specialties are in the lower half of earners among 30 specialties.
