94.6 percent of hospitals have been addressing physician shortages through telemedicine programs, according to the results of the Eagle 2023 Telemedicine Adoption Survey.
The survey polled 426 physicians, hospital administrators and executives and nurses that deliver inpatient care at hospitals with a high implementation rate of over 89 percent, according to an Aug. 24 news release.
The survey found that large hospitals with over 250 beds had the highest telemedicine implementation rate of 97.7 percent. The most popular reasons for telemedicine implementation were physician specialty support at 52.2 percent, surge specialty support at 40.3 percent, staffing gap support at 39.8 percent and night shift support at 37.1 percent.
Telemedicine implementation also led to higher patient satisfaction, with 87.3 percent of survey respondents reporting patients were either satisfied or very satisfied with their telemedicine care.
