Former Alabama physician 1 of 1,500 with drug charges commuted by President Biden

President Joe Biden recently commuted the prison sentence of Shelinder Aggarwal, who was allegedly the most prolific Medicare prescriber of opioids in the U.S., WAFF reported Dec. 17. 

Mr. Aggarwal, a former physician of Huntsville, Ala., sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2017, is one of nearly 1,500 people whose drug sentences were commuted by Mr. Biden. . 

Mr. Aggarwal pleaded guilty to a count of distributing a controlled substance outside the scope of a professional practice and not for a legitimate medical purpose in 2016. The federal government also pursued a healthcare fraud charge against Mr. Aggarwal when it discovered that he was issued $9.5 million for unneeded urine tests.

He surrendered his state medical license and forfeited control of his clinic, Chronic Pain Care Services, in 2016.
