Only 34 percent of Americans have visited their primary care provider within the last year, according to a survey conducted by OnePoll for Assurance IQ.
The survey polled 2,000 Americans between July 28 and 30 on their biggest barriers to healthcare access.
Out-of-pocket expenses were the leading cause of concern, with 53 percent of those surveyed saying expenses would affect their decision to not seek medical care if they needed it. Meanwhile, 49 percent of those polled reported budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses.
Other reasons for avoiding medical care include lacking transportation to get to and from the physician's office, being too busy or wanting to wait until the problem is more urgent and generally not liking going to see a physician.
