Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has placed R. Christopher Lindsay at the helm of the state's department of health, according to a Feb. 13 report from the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Mr. Lindsay serves as the department's chief operating officer and was designated to handle day-to-day operations following the rejection of Colin Greene, MD, Gov. Youngkin's first pick for commissioner.
Mr. Lindsay's appointment is in violation of state code, which requires that the commissioner be "a physician licensed to practice medicine in this Commonwealth and shall be certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine or a recognized board in a primary care."
Youngkin administration spokesperson Macaulay Porter reported the search for another appointee will continue.
