Physicians from Johnson City, Tenn.-based ETSU Health Family Medicine visited patients in their homes, conducted welfare checks and offered supplies in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Many of the 13 physicians purchased the supplies given to patients and were on their days off when they made the visits, according to an Oct. 7 news release from ETSU shared with Becker's.
The physicians reached out to approximately 500 patients and traveled across Washington, Greene, Cart and Unicoi counties to provide care.
The ETSU Health family medicine department is exploring ways to collaborate with physician alumni who work in areas affected by the hurricane, the release said.
