States with the highest, lowest hospital safety rankings

Healthcare data collector Leapfrog has released its 2022 hospital safety grades, ranging from F to A. New Hampshire tops the list as the state with the greatest percentage of hospitals receiving A grades at 53.8 percent. 

Percent of hospitals with an 'A' grade by state: 

1. New Hampshire: 53.8 percent 

2. Virginia: 52.1 percent

3. Utah: 51.9 percent 

4. Colorado: 50 percent 

5. Idaho: 50 percent 

6. New Jersey: 47.1 percent

7. North Carolina: 44.2 percent 

8. Maine: 43.8 percent 

9. Pennsylvania: 40.9 percent 

10. Florida: 39.3 percent 

11. Oregon: 38.2 percent 

12. Washington: 34.8 percent 

13. Massachusetts: 34.5 percent 

14. Texas: 34.1 percent 

15. Tennessee: 33.8 percent 

16. Hawaii: 33.3 percent

17. Rhode Island: 33.3 percent 

18. Minnesota: 32.6 percent 

19. Michigan: 32.5 percent 

20. Montana: 30 percent 

21. South Carolina: 29.4 percent 

22. Louisiana: 29.3 percent 

23. Mississippi: 29.3 percent 

24. Kansas: 28.6 percent 

25. California: 28.2 percent
