Press Ganey recognized five physician and nurse leaders with its HX23 award, given to leaders who advance the human experience of healthcare.
Awardees were selected based on input from their peers on how they are advancing the human experience of healthcare, according to a Feb. 8 press release.
The following leaders received the HX23 award:
1. Willie Edward Lawrence Jr., MD. Medical Director of Health Equity of Corewell Health South (Benton Harbor, Mich.). Dr. Lawrence was awarded the physician of the year award for the high-quality cardiovascular care he provides to patients in his community. He specializes in interventional cardiology and is a volunteer for the American Heart Association.
2. Patrick Perl, RN. Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist of Arnot Ogden Medical Center (Elmira, N.Y.). Mr. Perl was awarded the front-line clinical nurse of the year award for his hands-on patient care during COVID-19. He went above and beyond for COVID-19 patients in his care, piloting the hospital's "Share the Light, Shine the Light" initiative to decorate patient hospital rooms.
3. Annie George, PhD, RN. Corporate Senior Director of Nursing Excellence and Research of NYC Health + Hospitals (New York City). Dr. George was awarded the nurse leader of the year award for her commitment to staff education. She empowers nurses to share their thoughts and feelings in the office, cultivating a strong nursing culture. She is also co-chair of a COVID-19 research committee.
4. David Lubarsky, MD. CEO of University of California Davis Health (Sacramento). Dr. Lubarsky was awarded the CEO of the year award for his focus on expanding UC Davis Health and improving the hospital's revenue. Since joining in 2018, he has expanded the facilities' technology and increased revenues by more than 50 percent.
5. Robert Phillips, MD, PhD. Executive Vice President and Chief Physician Executive and Specialty Physician Group CEO of Houston Methodist. Dr. Phillips was awarded the lifetime achievement award for influential leadership throughout the course of his career. Dr. Phillips has worked in healthcare for decades, delivering safe and quality care. He is well-known for his detailed response and management of COVID-19.
