Physicians are moving away from small practices: 3 things to know

Over the last 10 years, physicians have migrated away from small practices, according to a survey conducted by the American Medical Association shared with Becker's July 12.

This information is based on data that was collected between 2012 and 2022 by the AMA.

Three things to know:

1. The number of physicians at practices with 10 or fewer physicians decreased from 61.4 percent  to 51.8 percent between 2012 and 2022.

2. The number of physicians at practices with 11 to 24 and 25 to 49 physicians mostly remained stable over the last decade.

3. The number of physicians at practices with 50 physicians or more grew from 12.2 percent to 18.3 percent between 2012 and 2022.
