Springfield, Ill.-based Memorial Health has laid off 20 percent of leadership positions and hundreds of employees due to "current national and statewide economic trends," the Jacksonville Journal-Courier reported Aug. 8.
In addition to the layoffs, Jacksonville (Ill.) Memorial Hospital will close its transitional care unit as part of the health system's restructuring.
"This is a difficult decision that was made after careful analysis and implementation of other cost-saving measures," Memorial Health President and CEO Ed Curtis told the Journal-Courier. Memorial Health is not immune to national trends, such as rising cost of supplies and equipment, high cost of labor and shifting trends in payer reimbursements."
