Tim Springer, PhD, an immunologist and professor of biological chemistry and molecular pharmacology at Boston-based Harvard Medical School, has donated $210 million to the Institute for Protein Innovation, a nonprofit research organization that focuses on protein science, according to a May 24 report from Forbes.
The institute just announced the gift, though it was made by Dr. Springer, his wife and his children at the end of 2020.
Dr. Springer has a net worth of about $1.9 billion and launched the institute in 2017 with a $40 million donation.
IPI focuses on providing antibodies and protein-based tools to the scientific community.
Dr. Springer earned his wealth as a founding investor in Moderna, which he owned 5 percent of when it went public in 2018.
