While 74 percent of hospitalists said they were either very or somewhat happy before the COVID-19 pandemic, only 15 percent report feeling very or somewhat happy in 2023, according to Medcape's 2023 "Hospitalist Lifestyle and Happiness Report," which was drawn from a survey of over 9,200 physicians across 29 specialties.
Before the pandemic, only 15 percent of hospitalists were neither happy nor unhappy, but that number reached 42 percent in 2023.
Today, 42 percent of hospitalists report feeling very or somewhat unhappy, up from 11 percent before the pandemic.
