Diversity lacking in US medical school faculty, department chair positions

The Association of American Medical Colleges has published its breakdown of U.S. medical school faculty and department chairs by race and ethnicity in 2022, and it shows a lack of Black, Hispanic and Asian representation, according to a July 26 report from Stat News.

The percentage of each race and ethnicity holding  full-time faculty, full professor and department chair positions at medical schools in 2022: 

Black/African American 

Full-time faculty: 4.3 percent

Full professor: 2.3 percent

Department chair: 4 percent

Hispanic/Latino 

Full-time faculty: 3.7 percent

Full professor: 2.7 percent

Department chair: 3.9 percent

Asian 

Full-time faculty: 22.8 percent

Full professor: 15.4 percent

Department chair: 11.1 percent
