Boston Medical Center selects new physician-in-chief

Boston Medical Center has named Anthony Hollenberg, MD, its new physician-in-chief and the John Wade professor and chair of the department of medicine at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Hollenberg was the chair of the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and physician-in-chief at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, both in New York City, prior to joining BMC, according to a Dec. 19 press release from Boston Medical Center.

He specializes in endocrinology, with clinical work and research focused on thyroid disorders.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Hollenberg to BMC," Kate Walsh, CEO of Boston Medical Center Health System, said. "In addition to his clinical and research expertise, I am confident he will continue to cultivate and attract top talent in academic medicine and research to our campus, while also fostering and mentoring emerging talent, advancing our core mission, including health equity, and raising the hospital and medical school's national profile even further."

Dr. Hollenberg will succeed David Coleman, MD, who stepped down as chief and chair. Dr. Coleman has held the position since 2006.
