Arkansas cardiologist settles in Medicare fraud case

Jeffrey Tauth, MD, a cardiologist practicing in Hot Springs, Ark., has settled in a Medicare fraud case, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported Jan. 6.

Dr. Tauth agreed to pay $900,000 to settle claims from the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee that he falsely submitted claims to Medicare for giving patients cardiac stents who didn't medically need them.

The alleged actions occurred between September 2013 and August 2019, while Dr. Tauth was treating patients at the National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. The hospital and Hot Springs Cardiology settled in October 2020 for the alleged violations and agreed to pay over $14 million.
