The American Medical Association has sent a letter to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, asking the agency to finalize proposed reforms on prior authorization requirements.
The letter, which was signed by 120 physician organizations, included a variety of recommendations on provisions for Medicare Advantage plans. It also thanked Ms. Brooks-LaSure for CMS' response to stakeholders.
"We applaud CMS' proposed policy responses to … ongoing stakeholder concerns and urge CMS to finalize these policies to help protect beneficiaries’ access to medically necessary care," the letter said.
The letter specifically targets the improper use of prior authorization Medicare Advantage requirements which potentially delay and disrupt medically necessary care for Medicare patients.
