7 issues for physician leaders to watch at the 2023 AMA delegation meeting

In mid-June, the American Medical Association House of Delegates will meet in Chicago to create a national physician consensus on a number of emerging health issues, including science, ethics, business and government.

The policies agreed upon and adopted at the meeting will give the AMA direction for its work and advocacy over the next year.

Here are seven notable issues to be discussed at this year's meeting, according to a June 8 report from the AMA:

1. Protecting against false or misleading medical information generated by artificial intelligence.

2. Supporting oversight of payers that use AI to authorize or deny services via prior authorization.

3. Removing body mass index as an acceptable measurement in medicine.

4. Changing the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's classification of testosterone.

5. Opposing limits to diversity, equity and inclusion lessons in medical school.

6. Promoting race-conscious medical school admissions decisions.

7. Setting ethical guidance to addressing barriers to equitable care.
