5 studies physicians will want to read

Here are five studies that affect physicians that Becker's has reported on since Oct. 18:

1. The designation of health professional shortage areas has not contributed to significant changes in mortality or physician density in the designated counties, according to a recent study published in the November issue of Health Affairs.

2. Family physicians who have adopted value-based payment models reported less burnout, according to a recent study from the American Academy of Family Physicians.

3. An artificial intelligence-guided tool accurately identified symptoms of distress in conversations between healthcare providers and therapists early in the pandemic, according to a study conducted by researchers at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in New York City.

4. Physician-owned hospitals saved $1.1 billion in 2019 when compared to the cost of care at traditional facilities over the same period, according to research commissioned by the Physician's Advocacy Institute and the Physicians Foundation.

5. Female physicians see fewer patients but spend relatively more time working in EHRs, which results in lower productivity, but recent coding changes have helped level the playing field, according to a recent study published in Journal of General Internal Medicine.
