Proposed osteopathic med school names chief medical officer, associate dean

Maryland-based Meritus Health has selected the first associate dean and chief medical officer for the proposed Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine in Hagerstown, Md., the Hagerstown Herald-Mail reported Jan. 5.

Aaron George, DO, has been named associate dean of clinical education and community development under Paula Gregory, DO, the proposed school's dean. Dr. George previously served as chief medical officer.

Replacing him in that position is Anand Budi, MD. Dr. Budi will step in as chief medical officer after serving as associate chief medical officer for Meritus Medical Center. He has practiced as a pediatrician in the area since 1998.

The ground for the 200,000-square-foot medical school was broken in October 2022 and construction is set to begin this winter. Drs. Gregory and George are overseeing the accreditation and hiring processes for the school.
