Northwell Health has named Richard Carvajal, MD, deputy physician-in-chief and director of medical oncology for the Northwell Health Cancer Institute in New Hyde Park, N.Y., according to a Jan. 23 report from the Island 360.
Dr. Carvajal has previously served as the director of experimental therapeutics and the melanoma service at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City. He has also led the developmental therapeutics service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, also in New York City.
In this role, Dr. Carvajal will supervise medical oncology across Northwell's cancer network, the largest in the state of New York. He will also oversee efforts to achieve National Cancer Institute designation for Northwell's Cancer Institute as a consortium with Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) Laboratory.
Dr. Carvajal was also named the R.J. Zuckerberg Chair in Medical Oncology and will serve as a professor of medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Hempstead, N.Y.
He will treat patients at Northwell's Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and the R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center in Lake Success.
